POSITION DETAILS

Addictions Recovery Center, Inc (ARC) in Medford, Oregon is a behavioral health agency providing a trauma-informed, comprehensive continuum of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorder treatment services in Southern Oregon. We are seeking full-time Sobering Specialists to join our professional treatment organization to support our clients through our sobering programs.

The Sobering Specialist provides essential sobering and withdrawal management care to clients preparing for residential addiction treatment. This role involves conducting admissions and discharges, monitoring and supporting clients with a trauma-informed approach, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. The position requires round-the-clock shifts and demands a compassionate, detail-oriented individual.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Conduct admissions and discharges of sobering clients following established protocols
  • Monitor clients every 15 minutes, record vital signs, and maintain accurate records
  • Address inappropriate or disruptive behavior swiftly and professionally
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment in the sobering area
  • Assist with withdrawal management tasks and support nursing staff by monitoring vital signs
  • Provide emotional support, educate clients about the sobering process, and de-escalate situations as needed
  • Collaborate with the treatment team and other agencies to ensure client care continuity
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and manage supplies for sobering and detox services
  • Assist with meal distribution, room preparation, and engage with clients as directed
  • Provide immediate assistance and coordinate with emergency services in crisis situations, ensuring the safety of clients and staff

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & SKILLS

Education, Credentials and Skills should include:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Post-secondary education or training in the medical field, highly preferred (e.g., CNA, EMT, MA)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, team members, and other stakeholders
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address behavioral issues and assist with client-related challenges
  • Ability to provide empathetic, trauma-informed care and handle sensitive situations with respect and professionalism
  • Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs, understanding detoxification symptoms, and familiarity with clinical tools (e.g., CIWA, COWS)
  • Strong organizational skills to manage the cleanliness and safety of the sobering area and support operational tasks
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with various departments and external agencies
  • Familiarity with medical record-keeping systems and basic office technology (e.g., phones, computers)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation and benefits include:

  • Most ARC employees are scheduled four-days a week to support their ability to maintain a healthy work and life balance; medical and sobering positions are scheduled to work three days a week
  • Starting wage for Sobering Specialist candidate ranging from $21.50 to $24.73 per hour, depending on credentials, skills and experience
  • Three (3) to six (6) weeks of Vacation accrued per year, based upon years of service
  • Sick time is accrued for all employees based on regularly scheduled hours
