What is Addiction?

addiction 1

"Addiction is a primary, progressive, and chronic disease. It affects the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health of the individuals who are afflicted. Scientific discoveries clearly demonstrate alcohol and other chemical dependencies to be behavioral manifestations of brain anomalies in certain individuals. These brain cell, brain chemistry, and brain function differences conspire and highjack the brain's ability to control or stop the use of psychoactive substances even in the face of catastrophic life consequences."

Dr. Darryl Inaba, Pharm D, CADC III, Director of Clinical and Behavioral Health Services, Addictions Recovery Center.
